Men, Women And Society

Men are from Mars and Women from Venus. Well this is not just a hyped statement or quote. There is a background to this quote. In astrology, each individual is supposed to be ruled and influenced by the planets that form a part of our galaxy. Just like sun and the moon affecting the life on our earth, the other planets in our planetary system too influences the life on earth through the emissions which may be congenial and helpful or harmful. Science of astrology lays down the character of emissions or energy of each planet and its effects on the individual. The planet mars symbolizes energy and force that push the individual to go forward and initiate action. The individuals ruled by Mars as the principle planet are likely to be over aggressive and highly energetic. Similarly men in general are far more aggressive when compared to women. The male hormone testosterone is responsible for the male body and organ development as well as for the male characteristics. The male hormone is also responsible for the sexual drive and the aggression in men. In line with the aggressive nature and psyche of men, they are generally referred to as beings from Mars. Venus on the other hand is supposed to contribute to the sensual, feminine and sexual aspects of the individual. Therefore women are said to be from venus.

Sexual drive in men is definitely driven by the male hormone. However the psychological aspects of the male identity, the thought process as well as the social and behavioral condition is influenced largely by the male instinct as well as the cultural belief systems that have been passed down from generation to generation.

Men, Women And Society

Males derive their identity from their sexual drive and their physique. Even women as well as the society has stereotype expectations from the male in terms of his identity, physique, role and behavior. Men are expected to be aggressive and chivalrous. Men who are submissive and soft by nature are often looked down upon or ridiculed by many. Society does not expect men to cry. It is not as if men are not allowed to express emotions, but they are expected to show strength and be ruled by reason and not lose control of their emotions during stressful times. Similarly the society expects men to perform certain roles and duties in life with regard to one’s family, society as well as the nation. Men are not expected to sit at home and tend to the children. Men are expected to go out and work to earn and be the providers while the women are expected to be the mothers and look after the home and family.

In the current times however there seems to be a lot of hormonal imbalances as well as the role and identity imbalances happening in all the societies. Modern day lifestyle is contributing to a lot of stress leading to hormonal imbalance in men causing erectile dysfunction, loss of sexual drive and impotence etc. On the other hand the trend of women going out to work and men staying back home to tend to the babies is also growing. Gay marriages are on the rise. Any imbalance is not natural and will have its repercussions. These are trying times which will soon pass and we will move on in life.
